Lumbar Microdiscectomy
Lumbar microdiscectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed to remove the herniated portion of a lumbar disc that is compressing a spinal nerve root.
Indications
- Severe leg pain unresponsive to conservative medical treatment and physical therapy
- Progressive muscle weakness in the leg or foot
- Loss of bowel or bladder control (cauda equina syndrome - surgical emergency)
- Structural nerve compression verified by lumbar MRI.
